MATERIALS FOR LAYING GLASS CERAMIC AND PORCELAIN TILES

When laying glass-ceramic or porcelain pool lining a very important condition is the provision of quality materials and the exact observance of the technology for its installation to achieve the correct construction of the pool.

When gluing the tiles themselves, they cannot compensate for the unevenness of the surface on which they are laid. For this it is very important to prepare flat surfaces on which to glue the tiles. We recommend that a waterproofing additive is applied to the cement mortar when plastering. The waterproofing should be laid in two layers, with reinforcing mesh installed between them. It helps to increase the mechanical strength of the waterproofing. Additionally, a 120 mm wide elastic reinforcing strip shall be installed on all horizontal and vertical edges between the two layers of waterproofing to strengthen the corners. This is necessary because the reinforcing mesh breaks when it is laid on the edges themselves. In this connection, it is mandatory to make chokers on all horizontal edges of the basin and on the compensation tank (in the case of basins with an overflow chute).

It's nice to have the glue white. If you choose a grey glue, there is a risk of glue bleed-through when applying a lighter coloured joint afterwards. If you prefer a cement based joint it should be borne in mind that such joints last a maximum of 4 seasons. As a consequence of the active chemical ingredients in the water it breaks down. It is therefore advisable to use an epoxy grout. It is a two-component paste which, after application, polymerises into a solid mass that withstands all chemical influences. It is recommended to form delamination joints every 3 metres and at all corners using specialised silicones.

When applying the waterproofing, adhesive and joint compound, it is very important to follow the exact technology for their application.

In basins with an overflow chute, attention must also be paid to the treatment of the chute as well as their compensating tanks. We recommend that they are treated with epoxy paint, which is easy to apply.

Typically, pools are poured twice: first the bottom is poured, then the walls. It is good to use a waterstop or swelling tape.
