Having a hot tub is both a pleasure and a responsibility. The maintenance and cleaning of your hot tub are key to ensuring a pleasant experience during use and the longevity of the acquisition. In this guide you will find everything you need to know about the complete and proper cleaning of a jacuzziso you can enjoy your acquisition for years.
How often should we clean the Jacuzzi?
The frequency of cleaning the Jacuzzi will vary according to how often it is used. It's a good idea to clean it several times a week or after each use using an underwater cleaner, and once every 2-3 months you should give it a thorough cleaning. This is because over time deposits build up on the walls and in the jets, which can harden and cause mould to form.
Required tools and materials
Here are the more important tools to have if you want to basically clean your hot tub:
- protective gloves;
- cleaner for whirlpool;
- a soft brush or an old toothbrush;
- kitchen scrubbing sponge without abrasive surface;
- microfiber cloth.
How to clean the whirlpool step by step?
Before proceeding to cleaning the Jacuzzi, read the information leaflet, which mentions what should and should not be done during cleaning, as well as what products you can use.
Step 1: Draining and disinfecting the Jacuzzi
Begin the whirlpool cleaning process by shocking the disinfectant at 5-10 times the normal levels. Then activate the jets at maximum for about 15 minutes to allow the disinfectant saturated water to wash, disinfect and clean all pipe joints.
Step 2: Empty the Jacuzzi
When emptying, keep in mind that the water has a high disinfectant concentration. Do not pour into local sewage treatment plants and do not use it for irrigation.
Step 3: Clean the inside of the Jacuzzi
Once you've done the preparation, it's time for the actual cleaning of the Jacuzzi, which involves cleaning the walls, the bottom and all the water and air jets.
Soak the sponge with the whirlpool cleaner and spread it all over the inside of the unit. Scrub the walls and bottom gently without pressing too hard. Use an old toothbrush or other soft brush to clean dirt and mineral build-up from the jets.
Once you have finished cleaning, rinse the whirlpool with clean water to remove any residue from the cleaner. Then dry carefully with a clean, dry cloth.
Step 4: Clean the whirlpool filter
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to remove the filter and clean it. Rinse it with a strong stream of water (but not a water jet) to remove larger particles, then spray it with the same whirlpool cleaner you used earlier. Set the flotation aside for 15 minutes to allow the cleaner to break down the dirt. Use a soft brush or toothbrush to scrub away any remaining particles. Finally, rinse the filter well and return it to the whirlpool.
If the filter is heavily soiled you may need to repeat the whole process to remove more stubborn build-up, and if that doesn't help you'll need to soak the filter for 20 minutes in a mixture of warm water and detergent before scrubbing it. Do not use heavily soiled filters, it is better to buy a new one and replace it.
Step 5: Clean the outer walls of the Jacuzzi
Start by cleaning the Jacuzzi cover with a soft brush or sponge, then clean and polish the walls as well. Use appropriate cleaners for individual elements made of different materials - acrylic, metal, etc. - to protect them from damage. Dry the entire Jacuzzi one last time.
How is a Jacuzzi maintained?
Another important point in owning a Jacuzzi is its regular maintenance and prevention. These are necessary to prevent problems, to maintain optimum water cleanliness, and to extend the life of every component part of the hot tub. Here's how to properly maintain your hot tub:
- Clean filters weekly - once a week, remove and rinse the whirlpool filter to keep it clean. Regular maintenance ensures the efficiency of the entire system.
- Service the pumps every three months - Check and service your hot tub pumps every quarter to help keep them running smoothly.
- Test the water every month - test the water every 2-3 days and before each use - perform systematic water quality tests. This includes checking the pH level, disinfectant concentration and other parameters. Actively maintaining the water balance prevents various problems such as limescale formation.
- Deep clean the hot tub every 2-3 months - and if it's very busy or for public use, every month. If you use the hot tub frequently, it's a good idea to set aside an hour or two each month to deep clean it, as explained above.
Disinfection of the Jacuzzi
In addition to mechanical cleaning, the water in the jacuzzi should also be disinfected regularly using detergents. If your whirlpool model is equipped with a water disinfection system (ozone generator), you can lower the dose of disinfectants.
The use of chlorine tablets is possible, but not recommended for disinfection of hydro-massage devices, as chlorine is unstable at high temperatures and its smell is very strong. Preparations such as active oxygen or bromine tablets. You can also use ready-made Jacuzzi maintenance kit.
That was all you needed to know about cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining your hot tub. As long as you take the time to regularly maintain and clean this unit, you can be confident that it will keep you happy for years. By doing so, you will not only keep your hot tub in optimal condition, but you will also provide a clean and safe environment for all who use it.
