DISINFECTION BY HYDROLYSIS

Nowadays, we are witnessing constantly changing and improving technologies. This is also true for swimming pools - every year new technologies are introduced that allow us to make more and more attractive swimming pools, of higher quality and more pleasant for the users. In the following lines we will share one of the most innovative methods for disinfecting pool water - hydrolysis.

What is hydrolysis? How is pool water purified by hydrolysis?

Hydrolysis is an electrochemical process by which water molecules are "broken down" to hydroxyl ions. These in turn have a strong oxidizing effect - killing microorganisms such as bacteria, algae, fungi and others. The ions in question are then converted back into water molecules. This creates an endless process where there is no need to add chlorine, bromine or oxygen.

Advantages and disadvantages of hydrolysis

The main disadvantage of this method of disinfecting the pool is the cost. Hydrolysis systems are more expensive than detergent dispensing systems and are rarely an optimal option for family pools in the yard or garden. They are among the preferred options for large public swimming pools that delight guests of hotels and other holiday resorts.

The main advantage of hydrolysis disinfection systems is that they make swimming pools more pleasant to use. The reason for this is that no chemicals such as chlorine are required. Accordingly, forget about annoying burning eyes, unpleasant taste when swallowed and discomfort on the skin. Another reason why more and more Aquatech customers prefer water hydrolysis systems over other methods is that they make pool maintenance much easier. Most manufacturers on the market offer their products with screens and multiple controllers. What's more, modern systems offer monitoring and control of a range of pool metrics and functions remotely, using an internet connection. These can be pH regulation, pool lighting control, temperature increase or decrease, filtration control and more.

Other pool disinfection methods without chlorine and detergents

  • Electrolysis - in this method, common table salt (NaCl) is added to the pool water. With the help of electricity, electrolysis systems break down molecules to sodium and chloride ions. Chlorine comes into contact with microorganisms and disinfects the water.
  • UV sterilization - ultraviolet rays have a proven antibacterial effect. In this method, the water passes through system that emits UV raysthat destroy bacteria in the pool.
  • Ionization - these systems use silver ions that kill bacteria and other microorganisms. Copper ions are also used to inhibit the growth of microalgae. The result - clean water without any chemicals.
